1. Register with one of the partner libraries

  • Do you already have a library card from one of the partner libraries?

If you already have a library card from one of the participating libraries, your account is automatically activated for the ebooks.lu service.

  • You don’t have a library card yet?

To be able to use the service ebooks.lu a registration with one of the  partner libraries is necessary. You can find the list of all participating libraries at here.

2. Discover ebooks and audiobooks

Whether you’re a fan of fiction, non-fiction or just want to discover new things – there is something for everyone in our vast collection of ebooks.

Our ebooks are available on three platforms. We offer ebooks in French on Numilog, English on Libby and German on the Onleihe platform.

Our audiobooks are available on two platforms: English and German on Libby, French on Numilog.

English ebooks and audiobooks – Libby  (formerly Overdrive)

German ebooks – Onleihe (new from 08/05/2024)

French ebooks and audiobooks – Numilog

3. Install a reader app

If you want to donwload ebooks to your devices or transfer them to your e-reader, we recoomend you install Adobe Digital Editions.

Installation on your computer:

Download the free Adobe Digital Editions software to your computer. You can download it here:

The software is available for Windows and Apple.

Installation on your mobile device (smartphone or tablet):

  • German and French ebooks:

Download the free PocketBook Reader app to your mobile device. You can find it in your Google Play Store for Android or in the App Store for iOS.

  • English ebooks:

Download the Libby App, by Overdrive to your mobile device. You can find it in your Google Play Store for Android or in the App Store for iOS.

Audiobooks:

You have the choice between audiobooks in German, English or French.

  • French audiobooks:

French audiobooks are only available by streaming in your browser which requires a permanent, active internet connection. It is not possible to download the audiobook. An installation of an additional app is not necessary.

  • German and English audiobooks

The audiobooks in English and German are downloadable and you can listen to them without an active Internet connection.

You can only download audiobooks in German or English on your mobile device like your phone or your tablet.

To download an audiobook in English or German, you need to install the Libby app, by Overdrive. You can find the app in the Google Play Store for Android or in the App Store for iOS.

How to search for an ebook and how to download it?

You can search for ebooks on a-z.lu, the discovery tool of all public libraries that are part of the bibnet-network. Before you start your search, do not forget to sign in in a-z.lu. Click on “sign in” and enter your library card number and your password. Type the title of the book, keywords, author, or subject of your choice into the search field. Then, select the search filters “Digital Library” and “Ebooks.lu” on the right of the search bar.

Once you have located the ebook in the list of your search results, click on “Online access”. You are automatically redirected to the website of the ebook vendor. Follow the instructions to download the ebook to your favorite device. Once the download is completed, open it with the corresponding software or application (Adobe Digital Editions or Libby, by Overdrive).

How to search for an audiobook and how to download it?

Searching for audiobooks on a-z.lu works the same way as the search for ebooks. Before you start your search, do not forget to sign in in a-z.lu. Click on “sign in” and enter your library card number and your password. Type the title of the audiobook, keywords, author, or a topic of interest in the search field. Then choose the search filters “Digital Library” and “Ebooks.lu” on the right of the search bar. In the search results you will find ebooks and audiobooks. To limit your request to audiobooks, filter by “Type of publication” under “Tweak my results” (on the right of the screen), selecting “Audio books”.

To borrow an audiobook, click on “Online access”. You will then be redirected to the audiobook/ebook provider’s platform.

Follow the instruction on the provider’s platform to download the audiobook or to listen to it by streaming.

2. How to renew the loan of your ebook or audiobook

Ebooks:

Currently it is not possible to renew directly the loan of a German or French ebook. If you have not finished the ebook yet you have the option to reborrow the same ebook after the end of the loan period.

You can renew the loan of your English ebooks directly in the app Libby, by Overdrive.

Audiobooks:

Currently it is not possible to renew directly the loan of a French audiobook. If you have not finished the audiobook yet you have the option to reborrow the same audiobook after the end of the loan period.  You can renew the loan of your English and German audiobooks directly in the app Libby, by Overdrive.

3. How to return ebooks or audiobooks before the end of the loan period

Ebooks:

  • German and French ebooks:

Currently it is not possible to return German or French ebooks before the end of the loan period. The ebook will stay two weeks on your device.
Please note that this is currently only possible with the desktop version of Adobe Digital Reader, the Pocketbook Reader app does not support returning ebooks.

English ebooks can be easily returned in the app Libby, by Overdrive.

Audiobooks:

You can return all audiobooks before the end of the loan period. Please always return the audiobook as soon as you have finished it. Otherwise, the audiobook will be blocked for the maximum loan period of 2 weeks and no other library user can borrow it.

You can return French audiobooks directly in the browser. English and German audiobooks can be easily returned in the app Libby, by Overdrive.
